YiYi Mafuz

Yiyi Mafuz is a Puerto Rican artist whose work explores the emotional interiority of women particularly mothers. She studied Arts and Comunication at Universidad del Sagrado Corazon and continued her training at La Escuela de Artes Plasticas de Puerto Rico. Mafuz moved to Madrid, where she earned a Master’s degree in Arts Communication at Tracor-Instituto de las Artes de la Comunicacion.

The contrast between her Caribbean roots and Madrid’s urban grayness helped shape her visual language, defined by tension, rhythm, and emotional depth. Now based in Miame, Mafuz creates acrylic-on-canvas compositions marked by bold reds, dynamic movement and theatrical energy.

Her figures, often suspended, inverted, or in motion, reflect the complexities and societal pressures of modern womanhood. Her work draws from the vibrancyof Puerto Rico, the passion of Spain, and the fluid calm of Miami, blending these influences into a deeply personal and universal narrative. Blurring the line between the real and the imagined, Mafuz reveals identity in motion and emotion as a powerful, universal truth.
